Characteristics
Lavender is the most popular and versatile essential oil used on the market. The fresh floral top notes with subtle herbaceous undertones make it one of the best for calming, relaxing and balancing the emotions. The antiseptic and antibacterial properties make it the most valuable for use in healing minor cuts and burns. As a steam inhalation, it is used in treating colds and flu. Headaches can be relieved by gently rubbing a couple of drops on the temples. After a busy day at work, it can be burnt in a oil burner to promote a peaceful nights sleep and is particularly soothing during pregnancy. Psychologically, the calming, relaxing effects can be used to facilitate meditation, restoring harmony to the aura and helping to balance the chakras. It has an affinity to the crown chakra.
Contraindications
It has been recommended that Lavender should be avoided during the earlier stages of pregnancy due to the anti-spasmodic properties.
